JALAMA EXPRESSION SESSION 2009

Jalama kicked off Thursday afternoon with Tao Berman and me as we began our practice sessions for kayak tow-ins with the Red Bull PWC (personal water craft).

Friday the early surf crew started to filter into Jalama with a great session to be had at “T’s” (aka Tarantulas) in the morning. The report was that solid 8’ faces were rule of the day on the right-handers with the board surfers giving our butt surfers lots of room to do their thing. Sat. surf had decreased to shoulder high with good conditions in the morning denigrating in the afternoon to 8’ wind blown storm surf – perfect for more tow–in practice. Look for the still photos (by Jim Grossman) of Tao and Vince getting air on some crazy tow-outs. Around 35 people attended the Class V Surf Dogs BBQ Sat. night with the now famous Broken Paddle Margaritas flowing as freely as the surf related B.S.

The evening was topped off by Taylor’s videos of the day’s surf highlights being shown to the hearty crew around the campfire. Sunday morning dawned with near perfect conditions and 4 – 6’ A framed peaks and a nice offshore wind to groom them to perfection. It was an appropriate way to bring to close the 13th annual Jalama Expression Session. Thanks to all who attended. Randy & Mickey.

The event was awesome as per usual thanks to Randy Phillips, Mickey Stowell and the rest of the Class V Surfdogs. I showed up early Saturday and I was ready to surf the Reaction. I was greeted some really fun 2-4 foot waves right at the camp area. Some had gone down to Tarantulas, but, I figured 'Why paddle all the way down there" for I had all these fun looking waves to myself! A super fun time and others finally got out that and got some.

Later that Saturday good ol' Tao Berman showed us how it was done doing some tow in practice. Not an easy day for that! Choppy and just plain difficult to even hold on, much less get some big air. Fun nonetheless, though, and I am very sure we gave the 'Peanut Gallery' something to watch.

These photos are from the session that Taylor Burch, Matt Radis, Ian (From HB), Tao Berman, Jim Grossman, and Randy Phillips had on Sunday morning. Really NICE waves and it was really Jim who got a really nice aerial!

KAYAKSURF & WAVESKI WORKSHOP IN PENICHE / PORTUGAL

REPORT FINAL DA FORMAÇÃO SOBRE KAYAKSURF E WAVESKI EM PENICHE

O convite surgiu por parte do Instituto Politécnico de Santarém. O seu pólo de desporto - Escola Superior de Desporto de Rio Maior - está a administrar um Mestrado em "Desportos de Natureza: Actividades Aquáticas" e, na agenda da formação, kayaksurf e waveski. Paulo Simões, monitor e formador da RPF Kayaksurf School / Escola de Surf da Figueira da Foz, está a gerir a formação. A Escola de Surf de Peniche associou-se à iniciativa e a RPF contribuiu com todo o material. Reunidos os esforços, Paulo Simões está uma vez mais associado a uma iniciativa que promove o nosso desporto. Depois da pioneira Kayaksurf School na Figueira da Foz, reforça a aposta na formação na Federação Portuguesa de Canoagem e junto à comunidade académica. No passado fim de semana, decorreu a parte final da formação. Fotos de Henrique Frazão.

It ran in one of the most well known Europe surf spots - Peniche. Paulo Simões, RPF kayaksurf and waveski trainer, managed a workshop about our sport during two weekends. The target were be students of a "Sports and Outdoor activities". After the pioneer Kayaksurf School, Paulo Simões is associated with one more initiative that supports kayaksurf and waveski. kayaksurf.net proudly supports this event. CLÍNICAS DE WAVESKI COM MATHIEU BABARIT PARA PORTUGAL - 2010

Já em 2008 tínhamos apoiado a grande iniciativa do João Pais na pioneira formação sobre waveski com Mathieu Babarit na Ericeira. O multi-campeão do mundo está agora a organizar o seu calendário de formação para o próximo ano e, uma vez mais, lá está Portugal no plano. Matt virá a Peniche com um grupo francês (onde podem entrar portugueses de acordo com as vagas existentes) e poderá vir de novo até cá (ou Espanha) para mais uma formação com o nosso apoio. Mas vamos às news que Babarit nos enviou...

Mathieu Babarit and his school - www.octopusglisse.com - are organizing the calendar for 2010. Portugal is again in his projects (like in 2008) with a waveski clinic in Peniche. But let's look at the NEWS that Matt sent us:

PENICHE / FEBRUARY / 14th - 19th (CONFIRMED)

Waveski clinic with french competitors waveskier. It's from the 14th to the 19th in Peniche, because I know well the place, the accomodation, and also because it's a perfect place to have different swel and wind directions.
So for portugeses waveskiers, we have 2 solutions :

- We have 4 places left to do the clinics with the french competitors in February.

JANUARY / FEBRUARY or MARCH

We organise a special clinic for portugeses riders in january, february or march. We can do it in 3 days or in a week. we can do it in Santa Cruz to practice right on the world title 2011 spot! Minimum of 4 waveskiers, and maximum of 8.

WHAT IS A WAVESKI CLINIC?

A waveski clinics is : waveski technical (moves, eskimorol, duck dive...), video (we are filming the rider and we are doing video analysis), specifique physical preparation for waveski (warm up, streaching)...and more

Há duas semanas, no Facebook do kayaksurf.net, dissemos ao Migas que ele ia ter uma surpresa... pois bem, ela aí está! A entrevista que nos deu teve honras de publicação na FREESURF de Novembro. Em breve, estará igualmente na nossa secção de ENTREVISTAS, claro! O júnior que alcançou o 4º lugar no Mundial de kayaksurf 2009, faz agora parte do Team Watertech e surfa um ONA. Que mais se pode alcançar em escassos dois anos?

Esta edição da FREESURF destaca igualmente as formações de kayaksurf e waveski que estão a ser efectuadas no país. Uma em Peniche e outra na Figueira da Foz. Um nome em comum: Paulo Simões. É por ele que têm passado os planos de formação. Tudo na FREESURF que pode obter nas lojas e escolas de surf, associações académicas e sport zone (algumas). Na próxima edição da FREESURF: O homem do waveski em Portugal!

O kayaksurf galego está em franca expansão. Fomos este fim de semana até à Corunha e encontrámos os amigos galegos que ainda há bem pouco tempo estiveram em Portugal a participar no Mundial de Kayaksurf. Para 2010, teremos grandes novidades com a criação de um circuito regional de kayaksurf e o apoio da Federação Galega de Piraguismo. Quanto ao fim de semana... muita chuva e algumas ondas na praia de Bastiagueiro, Corunha, serviram para desenferrujar as pagaias. O report de Javi Diaz, elemento da nossa NEWS TEAM.

We went this weekend till Galicia (NW of Spain) surfing with our friends of Team Galicia. Next year, there will be - for the very first time - a kayaksurf circuit with two or three contests. Great news for kayaksurf in one great coast full of waves and good people. We'll wait for the dates to confirm on the calendar!

El Club Xuvenil As pontes se prepara para el primer circuito gallego en el 2010. La Federacion Gallega de Piraguismo ha llegado a un acuerdo con los clubes y el año que viene tendremos 2 o 3 pruebas. Sabemos que una de las playas será Pantín y estamos a la espera de saber las otras. Cuando tengamos el calendario completo mandaremos toda la informacion. Hasta entonces seguimos disfrutando de las olas como el pasado fin de semana en la playa de Bastiagueiro aprovechando la visita del kayaksurf.net.
