Já publicámos vários reports sobre o festival Santas Olas mas faltava, claro, o habitual report de Gabriel Landini - NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net. A confirmação de um grande evento e o kayaksurf argentino a dar mostras de grande diversão com cada vez mais kayaks nas ondas!

El Santas Santas Olas un verdadero exito / 4 dias a puro kayaksurf

Tuvimos 57 participantes que se repartieron en las distintas categorias. El apoyo de las empresas fue realmente muy bueno e indispensable para llevar a cabo una fiesta de esta naturaleza.

Debo Agradecer a ATLANTIKAYAK¨S - PATAGONIAN KAYAK - FREEKY - INDICO - RECIFE - KAYAK MDQ - SUPERDIC - NAUTICA LAFFONT - OPTITECH - ASOCIACION KAYAKISTAS MARPLATENCES - BIO-BIO - ANGEL SURFBOARD - KAYAKSURF.NET y en especial a todos los voluntarios que armaron y trasladaron incansablemente duarante los 4 dias toda la estructura del evento.

El Mar y el clima no nos ayudo esta ves y tuvimos jornadas frias ventosas y con pocas olas recien el domingo nos regalo olas de un metro que animaron las finales
Como siempre el mayor espectaculo lo dieron los sot 2 que se llevan el aplauso del publico pero no deja de asombrar el avance de kayaksurf en todas las categorias entre un año y otro.

Santa Cruz Kayaksurf Festival 10 / Report by Steve Farthing

Steve Farthing, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, escreve-nos a sua visão pessoal sobre o maior festival de kayaksurf do Mundo - Santa Cruz, Califórnia. Steve foi 3º em HP e 5º em Waveski. O vídeo mostra-nos que o craque continua em grande forma!

Steve Farthing, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, writes for us the report from Santa Cruz Kayaksurf Festival 2010. He was 3rd in HP and 5th in Waveski. We can see by this video that the World Champ is in great shape ;)


MING

Santa Cruz 2010 by Steve Farthing

For me it’s a bit of a journey to get to Santa Cruz, Brisbane, LA, San Francisco then a good hours drive but we arrived down at the beach Sunday afternoon a week before the event. Steamer Lane was going off at 6-8 feet, I was straight out for a few waves and had a classic session with most rides over 1 minute long. Monday and the swell dropped back to 5-6 feet and maintained that throughout the week. I Ventured out to Moss Landing and Davenport during my stay for some variety but neither matched the quality of Steamer Lane.

Wednesday night and the competitors gather at the Crandall’s for a feast and chance to trade surf stories. Betty and Jim Crandall have been involved with the event from the early days generously accommodating many of the travelling competitors. Thursday night and it s over to Denis Judson’s for registration and a BBQ not to mention a copious supply of the local beer, a tad stronger than what we get in Oz.

Friday morning and the competition starts dead on 7am. With so many divisions and competitors it’s a tight schedule miss your heat and its bad luck. You get to surf your division once on Friday and once on Saturday and your combined results determine if your going to make the finals on Sunday, Quarters for HP and semi’s for everything else. I only managed a 3rd in the HP on Friday but came back with a 1st on Saturday to scrape into the Quarters.


Dave Speller

Sunday and the swell was back on and building following disappointing conditions on Saturday. Many of the heat scores in the IC, HP and waveski divisions were very close some separated by 1 point. David Speller the current HP world Champion was a shock elimination in the HP quarters even after landing a big aerial but wasn’t getting length of ride which is part of the judging criteria at this event.


Darren Bason

Darren Bason blitzed the IC final with some big pocket slash turns. Chris Hobson looked to have the goods leading into the final but couldn’t buy a wave.


Fletcher Burton (with the ski), Tyler Lausten, Babarit and Dave Speller

The Waveski final saw some spectacular surfing with Mathieu Babarit edging in front in the final minutes until Fletcher Burton caught the wave of the day landing a massive aerial out the back and worked the wave all the way to the inside, victory to Fletcher.


Dave Johnston, Steve Farthing, Chris Hobson and Galen Licht

The HP final and the swell was peaking at well over 10 feet. 19 minutes to catch 3 wave was a tall order as the paddle back out was 5 minutes. Galen Licht timed it to perfection securing 3 solid rides to take the victory. I fell on my second and ran out of time in the end.

Congratulations to Denis Judson for organizing such a professionally well run event . Cant wait for next year

Decorreu este fim de semana na praia da Waikiki em Mar de Plata, Argentina, mais uma edição do Santas Olas Festival.
