Irlanda, Reino Unido, França, Espanha e Portugal, 33 regiões e 6 desportos de água - eis a génese dos Atlantic Watersport Games. O kayaksurf.net foi eleito Media Partner do evento e John Watson, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, dai manter-nos a par de todo o festival. Criado em 1996, o Comité Internacional dos Jogos Náuticos Intercélticos é uma associação que reúne representantes das diferentes regiões atlânticas.
O seu objectivo é desenvolver os desportos náuticos no Espaço Atlântico; desenvolver intercâmbios desportivos, culturais e económicos entre os países, desenvolver amizades entre os povos dos países e das regiões do Espaço Atlântico através do desporto, da cultura, da economia ou de qualquer outra actividade. Created in 1996, the International Committee of the Interceltic Watergames is an association which gathers representatives of the different member regions. Its aim is to develop marine leisure activities in the Atlantic Area; develop sportive, cultural and economical exchanges between the peoples from the countries and regions member of the International Committee, and develops friendship between the peoples from the regions and countries of the Atlantic Area, through sports, culture, economy or any other activity.
This year the event will run in North Devon (England) and John Watson, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, will keep us informed about all the news. kayaksurf.net is proudly Media Partner of the event and of course that surfkayaking is involved! Check out the presentation and all the infos below.

We have the opportunity for Surf Kayak to be part of an international watersports event. Please come and take part!
Also, the British Open Surf Kayak Championships are in the same area on the following weekend, 30/31 July, - all welcome, come for two contests in a week.
About The Atlantic Watersports Games
This is an annual, under 21 sporting championship event, , which gathers together the best regional teams in sailing, kayaking, surfing, rowing and other watersports in the Atlantic area. It was formerly known as the Inter-Celtic Games. The Games attract over 400 young competitors, including World, European and National champions.
The competition results in three types of ranking:
- Individual ranking
- Ranking of region by sport
- The overall ranking of regions.
About the 2011 Games:
The 2011 Games are to be hosted this year by North Devon. 23rd to 28th July.
Competitions this year are being held in surf kayaking, sea kayaking, sailing, surfing, rowing, kitesurfing and surf life-saving.
Sunday: check-in and opening ceremony; Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday: competition; Thursday: medals and closing ceremony. There will be events and entertainment all week at the Games Village in Bideford. A food and accommodation package is available from the organisers.
Which regions can take part?
33 regions from 5 countries are on the official list. You can compete for where you come from or where you live.
Ireland; Northern Ireland; Wales; Scotland; Channel Islands; Devon; Cornwall; Dorset&Somerset; Glos/Wilts/NSomerset; Cumbria; Cheshire; Lancashire;
France – Haute-Normandie; Basse-Normandie; Pays de La Loire; Bretagne; Charentes; Aquitaine;
Spain – Euskadi; Galicia; Asturias; Cantabria; Andalucia; Catalonia;
Portugal – Norte; Algarve; Centro; Lisboa; Alentejo.
If your region is not listed here, we are able to invite other regions – so please get in touch to find out more. We can add your region to the registration website.
Tell me about the Surf Kayak event?
The Surf Kayak event will be held at Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands. This will be alongside the Surf event and the Surf Life-saving event at the same beaches.
There are 4 classes in Surf Kayak:
U18 Men, Short boat (born 1993 or later). 2 maximum per region.
U21 Men, Short boat (born 1990 or later). 3 maximum per region.
U21 Ladies, Short boat. 2 maximum per region.
U21 Mixed, Long boat. 3 maximum per region.
Equipment: Most competitors will bring their own equipment. If needed, we can arrange for competitors to hire or loan surf kayaks, courtesy of AS Watersports of Exeter and their Valley kayaks, Mega Surfkayaks and Massif plastic surf kayaks.
How can I enter?
Registration and payment can only be made on the official website of the International Committee: www.jnieu.eu
Entries are made by each region’s Team Leader for each sport. Contact watersportsgames@northdevonplus.co.uk for any contacts in your region, or john@skernlodge.co.uk for help with liaison for any of the Surf Kayak entries.
Registration made up to 30th June will be 40 euros per competitor.
Registration from 1st to 15th July will be 55 euros.
A competitor taking part in several classes (eg both Shortboat and Longboat) will pay only one registration fee.
