WWST 2011 / Ocean Spirit Festival 2011 / 4th Report by Steve Farthing
Steve Farthing já em Portugal / 4º Report sobre o Mundial de Waveski
São Lourenço by Melissa Hardy
The fourth report from Steve Farthing always with Ocean Spirit on his mind ;) This time, he visited S.Lourenço, tasted a magnific wine and describes for us the South African Team. Below, also the LINK for all the reports publushed till now. Excellent!

Ocean Spirit on my mind
by Steve Farthing
It was a misty morning in Santa Cruz today. Tide was low and it was like a guillotine at the comp break….so I wimped out to Ericeia and Sao Lourenco for some more uncrowded waves which had a nice sucky reef break. I decided it was a “Portugese Tart Free Day”, so back to the comp break at high tide for some clean glassy 3-4ft conditions. Later in the day, I noticed Bruno Melo smacking a few sections on his Watertech.
So how about the South Africans...
Current world new age champ Andre Burger is back, bound to be without a wetsuit in these cold waters, but is in with a definite chance in both the open and backing up for a second title in the new age! I see Mike Cowen has made the team after being absent from the International scene for a number of years and is a contender for the both the seniors and open. Ruan Brand is now in the Juniors and will be up against the 10 strong French juniors in that division. Willy Grasser is back to have another crack at the veteran’s title and is in contention without the current champ showing up. Current number 4 in the womens, Sandra Pienaar is also back and is in the running for the women’s title in the absence of Caroline Angibaud.
So this time I’m off to sample some more of the Portugese delicacies….”Vale do Chafariz”, a nice drop of red!
Até amanhã, Ocean Spirit on my mind……
