INTERNATIONAL WAVESKI OPEN / FRANCE / SURF REPORT
BABARIT e CAROLINE VENCEM O PENN KALET TROPHY / SURF REPORT de FRÉDÉRIC JONNEAUX
O "Penn Kalet Trophy", decorreu em Plouhinec, Bretanha, no NW de França, nos dias 20 e 21 deste mês. É um evento que junta kayaks de mar (maratona), kayaksurf, paddle-surf, vela e waveski na praia de Gwendrez. O kayaksurf.net foi Media Partner e Fred Jonneaux enviou-nos agora o report completo. Francisco Saraiva também participou e, para a semana, aqui teremos mais fotos e vídeos do evento.
A costa Oeste francesa já tem pergaminhos no waveski (basta pensarmos em Babarit e Caroline) e esta prova é a confirmação de uma das maiores mecas europeias da modalidade, senão vejamos... 54 inscritos com inúmeros júniores (em Portugal, somente a Session ultrapassa este número de inscrições e não é um evento competitivo!). Uma verdadeira escola e um exemplo a seguir. Por cá, na última prova de Aveiro, em 16 inscritos na classe waveski, só 5 (nacionais) se registaram exclusivamente nesta classe. Os restantes são nomes bem mais conhecidos no kayaksurf (à excepção do Francisco, claro) que, simultâneamente, participam na classe dos waves (com algum material emprestado, inclusivamemente).
Queremos com isto dizer que há muito caminho a percorrer, claro. E exemplos como a FS Waveski School, RPF Kayaksurf School as formações da Watertech e da Portugal Kayak, são o futuro da modalidade. Mas vamos às classificações que, uma vez mais, consagraram o craque françês que estará na Ericeira este fim de semana!
Full Report from the International Waveski Open that was held last weekend in France. Mathieu Babarit and Caroline Angibaud won again and the event was a major success with 54 entries! Enjoy the report by Fred Jonneaux.

PEN KALET TROPHY / SURF REPORT
54 competitors were present, with Francisco Saraiva from Portugal, Marty Mc Cann and Morgan O'Sullivan from Ireland, and David Allan from Scotland.5 Juniors, 6 girls, 17 Jeunes (less than 17 years old).
Conditions were quite good on saturday, with 1,20 m waves, side-shore slow wind, growing in the evening. All series were made at the end of saturday, except the finals. On sunday morning, arriving at 8 o'clock, no wave, because of the low tide ! Arround 10 o'clock, a few wave series started, very small... At 11 we managed to start the Jeunes final on 0,50 m of smooth waves; bad luck for Mathieu Jonneaux (my son) which is 1,85m tall and 80 kg !!! But good luck for Pablo Arrouays, Maxiime Gaborit & Nathan Le Bars, all of them around 45 kg...
Then the waves kept growing a bit, and we could run Juniors final, then Ondine final, and the Open final to finish the competition. Mathieu Babarit was absolutely incredible in realizing 5 or 6 figures by wave on such small conditions !
