Campeonato Sul Americano de Canoagem onda 2010

O campeonato Sul Americano foi de alto nível e mais uma vez a prefeitura de Balneário Barra do Sul sediou um evento da canoagem onda que rolou altas ondas, sol e uma grande confraternização entre atletas do Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguai e Perú !! O melhor de tudo foi a adrenalina e disputa que rolou devido ao grande equilíbrio entre os atletas das categorias en geral. Foi um campeonato inesquecível, onde o brilho maior foi realmente a presença de tantos atletas. Parabenizo o organizador do evento Chrystian de Borba pelo excelente trabalho realizado e também aos atletas que passaram horas ou até dias viajando para prestigiar este evento no Brasil !! Com certeza este Sul Americano é mais uma porta se abrindo para a realização de um mundial por aqui, e nós brasileiros agradecemos muito a presença de todos e o grande esforço de todos no deslocamento de seus países, pois isso é prova de muito amor ao esporte que praticamos !! Parabéns e obrigado a todos !!!

South American Surf Kayak Championships 2010

After 4 hours in the air from Lima Peru to Sao Paulo, Brazil I hopped in a taxi across town and picked up a bus down to Joinville for 8 hours where I finally met Bruno for the first time. Bruno spent a lot of time emailing back and for between Brazil and Peru, introducing me to Chrystian and helping me plan my route down to the champs. To help me further he then drove me around all weekend between the hotel and competition site! Thanks Bruno!!

True to his word the competition was definitely worth the trip down. There is a great scene in Brazil with loads of surf kayaks and wave ski riders who all absolutely rip, I got to meet people who’s faces I had until now only seen on Kayaksurf.net, but never met in person. All these new faces quickly became friends and made me feel incredibly welcome all weekend and despite my ignorance of not speaking a word of Portugese, they all took patience in having conversations in broken Englich/Portugese/Spanish.

On top of the great atmosphere and high standard of competition, the organisation for who Crystian was responsible was amazing! Everything ran like clockwork only comparable to a world championship- there is not doubt in my mind that the Brazilian’s certainly know how to organise a great competition!
I had an amazing weekend; HUGE thanks to Fillipe for lending me his Kayak all weekend (Darren Bason’s EVO design), thanks to Bruno and his Amigos for inviting me down accommodating me and driving me around, and a big thank you to Chrystian for allowing me to enter!
