Nathan Eades, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, is living in Peru and has already made great contacts with the local surf scene. The well known surfer, has designed this new waveski for the peruan brand of GC Surfboards. Soon, a new interview with Nathan with very cool photos. Decorreu este fim de semana na prefeitura de Balneário Barra Sul e os números impressionam:
Total de Inscritos no Evento: 43 Atletas
Baterias Computadas no Evento: 65 Baterias
Ondas Surfadas no Evento: 1135 Ondas
Grande evento que contou com o apoio kayaksurf.net e uma brilhante embaixada NEWS TEAM - Bruno Guazzelli Filho e Nathan Eades - que nos reporta em cima do acontecimento todos os resultados e demais informações. Parabéns a todos e venha o Campeonato de 2011!

It run this weekend in Balneário Barra Sul the first edition of the South American Surf Kayak Championhips. The statistics are impressive:

Campeonato Sul Americano de Canoagem onda 2010

O campeonato Sul Americano foi de alto nível e mais uma vez a prefeitura de Balneário Barra do Sul sediou um evento da canoagem onda que rolou altas ondas, sol e uma grande confraternização entre atletas do Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguai e Perú !! O melhor de tudo foi a adrenalina e disputa que rolou devido ao grande equilíbrio entre os atletas das categorias en geral. Foi um campeonato inesquecível, onde o brilho maior foi realmente a presença de tantos atletas. Parabenizo o organizador do evento Chrystian de Borba pelo excelente trabalho realizado e também aos atletas que passaram horas ou até dias viajando para prestigiar este evento no Brasil !! Com certeza este Sul Americano é mais uma porta se abrindo para a realização de um mundial por aqui, e nós brasileiros agradecemos muito a presença de todos e o grande esforço de todos no deslocamento de seus países, pois isso é prova de muito amor ao esporte que praticamos !! Parabéns e obrigado a todos !!!

South American Surf Kayak Championships 2010
REPORT by Nathan Eades

After 4 hours in the air from Lima Peru to Sao Paulo, Brazil I hopped in a taxi across town and picked up a bus down to Joinville for 8 hours where I finally met Bruno for the first time. Bruno spent a lot of time emailing back and for between Brazil and Peru, introducing me to Chrystian and helping me plan my route down to the champs. To help me further he then drove me around all weekend between the hotel and competition site! Thanks Bruno!!

True to his word the competition was definitely worth the trip down. There is a great scene in Brazil with loads of surf kayaks and wave ski riders who all absolutely rip, I got to meet people who’s faces I had until now only seen on Kayaksurf.net, but never met in person. All these new faces quickly became friends and made me feel incredibly welcome all weekend and despite my ignorance of not speaking a word of Portugese, they all took patience in having conversations in broken Englich/Portugese/Spanish.

On top of the great atmosphere and high standard of competition, the organisation for who Crystian was responsible was amazing! Everything ran like clockwork only comparable to a world championship- there is not doubt in my mind that the Brazilian’s certainly know how to organise a great competition!
I had an amazing weekend; HUGE thanks to Fillipe for lending me his Kayak all weekend (Darren Bason’s EVO design), thanks to Bruno and his Amigos for inviting me down accommodating me and driving me around, and a big thank you to Chrystian for allowing me to enter!

TOTORA / First "surfkayaks" in Peru ;)

TOTORA / Como os peruanos criaram os primeiros "surfkayaks"...



Ainda há poucos dias tínhamos publicado algumas fotos com Nathan Eades a surfar no Perú - onde ainda se encontra. Aliás, a história do Perú está associada a uma das "teses" sobre o aparecimento do kayaksurf. Tudo se passou algures em Huanchaco com os primeiros TOTORA... não sabe o que são? Veja o vídeo... muito bom!

Nathan Eades - NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net - is still in Peru and a few days ago we published some photos of our welsh friend in Chicama. He is preparing great footage about Peru and the borning of kayaksurf. Why? All started with the Totoras. Originally used by fishermen, th Totora original surfboards are a versatile tool to navigate the waters of Peru. Sofia Mulanovich together with world-class surfer Sally Fitzgobbons and junior Nadja de Col exchanged their boards for the ancient type to test the surfing quality of these Peruvian boats that have thousands of years of history. NATHAN EADES / Surfada em Chicama, Perú / Em breve mais uma entrevista ;)

Já todos sabemos que, volta e meia, o nosso amigo de longa e data e NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net Nathan Eades, anda por esse mundo fora de pagaia na mão. O Nathan está a dar aulas no Perú e, claro, levou todo o material para surfar! Tem-nos enviado várias fotos - que serão depois publicadas com mais uma entrevista - mas aqui ficam estas. E onde foram tiradas? No famoso spot de Chicama O galês continua a surfar como poucos e, quer com waves ou surfkayaks, é só escolher ;) É a mais longa esquerda do mundo e, ainda há poucos anos, outro nome grande do kayaksurf por lá andou: Chris Harvey.

We already know that Nathan Eades is a worldwide rider! His reports and interviews are always on the "most visited" on kayaksurf.net website. Nathan is now teaching in Peru and, of course, he brought all his gear (surfkayaks and waves) for Peru ;) Here are some photos took in the infamous spot of Chicama - the longest left in the world. Soon, another interview with the "flying welsh" directly from Peru with great photos and rides... as usual ;)

Nathan Eades será a próxima entrevista do kayaksurf.net. O "yellowboy" andou por terras da América do Sul entre o Equador e o Peru. Em Huanchaco, conheceu Javier Perez, um entusiasta do waveski que, à falta de fabricantes e modelos disponíveis no Perú, fez ele mesmo o seu! Mas vamos ao report de Nathan:

REPORT IN PERU by NATHAN EADES - "Whem I meet Javier Perez"

On the last few days in Peru, I bumped into one of the most enthusiastic wave skiers I've ever met. It was in Huanchaco where I met this local wave ski rider: Javier Perez. He made me and Naomi very welcome on his local break 8 hours north of Lima, and about an hour south of Chicama. With no ski manufacturers in Peru, Javier has been hand shaping wave ski's from whatever bits of foam he can find and modelling them from images he has seen on the internet. He invited us both to his home in Huanchaco and showed us pics of his earlier models and his latest creation that he was working on. These images are of that wave ski now finished- he made it from combining foam blocks with an old windsurfer board then laminating over the top! This guy is an inspiration to us all!
