A Praia de Santa Rita conta com dois spots para o Campeonato Mundial de Kayaksurf. Este sábado decorreram os primeiros Heats repartidos pelos dois locais e, em competição, estiveram as classes Men HP (pré-eliminatórias), Women HP, Juniors HP e Masters HP. Todas as baterias findaram por volta das 15.30h porque, passados escassos minutos, começava o Campeonato o Mundo de Kitesurf. O dia esteve bom para os desportos de vento e as ondas, apesar de funcionarem praticamente durante todo o dia, surgiram desordenadas e com um close-out muito agressivo.

The beach of Santa Rita counts with two spots for the Worlds: North and South. The competition runs separately between both at the same time. Today we had on the water the Men HP (pre-round), Women HP, Junior HP and Masters HP. All the heats finished by 15.30h because at that time, the Kitesurf Worlds began. The day was very windy and the waves were there but... to much disorder.

MUNDIAL DE KAYAKSURF / REPORT DE QUINTA E ANTEVISÃO DE 6ª, 25 JULHO

Hoje, dia 24, todas as inscrições foram reconfirmadas e efectuado o pagamento. Dos 153 inscritos, aproximadamente duas dezenas não irão competir como "Individuais" e ficam em prova a pontuar somente para a respectiva equipa. O dia foi excelente para surfar com um bom swell e muito sol. Após as confirmações, ocorreram durante a tarde algumas reuniões - juízes, capitães de equipa e organização.

Sábado, dia 25 - COMEÇA A COMPETIÇÃO

Logo depois das 9.00h, irão seguir-se durante o dia os primeiros heats de Men HP (pré-eliminatórias), Juniores IC e Femininos HP. Os heats têm a duração de 15 minutos e os juízes são os seguintes: Paulo Schmidt, André Antunes, Ricardo Santos, Dominique, João Maia e Álvaro Pontes (Portugal) + Jon Aspuru e David Saenz (País Basco) + Larkin Donley e Ford Carlberg (EUA).

One more excellent day for trainning in the spot of Santa Rita. Good swell, great day of sun and lots of people in the beach just watching the trainnings. During this day, we made all the confirmations about the entries as well with the payements. After that, several meetings were done: judges, team liders and organization. Grande sessão de treino com excelentes condições de mar e estado de tempo. Sol e grandes ondas fizeram as delícias de dezenas de kayaksurfistas que hoje treinaram em Santa Rita. Registou-se um episódio menos bom... a australiana Tracy Garner lesionou-se num ombro e teve que abandonar o evento. Regressou a casa mais cedo com muito azar à mistura. A tarde decorreu com o "check boat" e, à noite, tivemos a abertura oficial com direito a um impressionante fogo de artifício. Programa para os próximos dias:

Great trainning day with very nice waves and lot of sun. The check-boat is done and the opening party was crowned with a beautiful firework. We saw great rides and Tim Harvey took these incredible photos. You can check more on the link below of his picture.

One sad thing happened... Tracy Garner (Australia Team) had an injurie in a shoulder and have to leave the competition. We wish you a rapid recovery Tracy!

WORLDS 2009 NEWS / TODAY, JULY 23th, WILL BE THE GRAND OPENING!

HOJE, 23 DE JULHO, SERÁ A GRANDE ABERTURA!

Hoje, dia 23 de Julho, os kayaksurfistas presentes no Mundial 2009, terão um dia cheio de actividades. A partir das 13h, teremos o check-boat (onde serão inspeccionados todos surfkayaks de acordo com as regras da WSKA). Às 5 da tarde, terá início o ensaio geral para a abertura oficial do Ocean deste ano e, às 10 da noite, o espectáculo da abertura terá início. Hoje, já se viam dezenas de kayaksurfistas nas ondas mas as condições meteorológicas não eram as melhores... alguma chuva e muito vento estragavam os treinos a todos os presentes. Mas a partir de amanhã as previsões melhoram. Esperemos!!

MEET THE BASQUE TEAM / CURRENT WORLD CHAMPION

EQUIPA BASCA DE KAYAKSURF / A ACTUAL CAMPEÃO DO MUNDO (2007)


Basque Team / World Champs 2007

Vamos então ficar a conhecer a actual equipa campeã do mundo de kayaksurf. O título foi ganho em 2007 no Mundial do País Basco e, juntamente com a equipa da Irlanda do Norte, arrisco a dizer que é uma das melhores do mundo. Edu Etxeberria é o elemento mais mediático - venceu a Taça do Mundo em 2008 e acumula inúmeros títulos em várias vertentes da canoagem. Possuem uma fortíssima vertente pedagógica bem patente na escola de kayaksurf que Edu dinamiza. Outros nomes bem conhecidos fazem parte do Team (Oskar Martinez, Txema Carreto, Luis Abando, Urko Otxoa, etc). Vamos ver se conseguem revalidar o título! Recorde-se que a formação basca já esteve presente na Escócia em 1997, Brasil em 1999, Estados Unidos Califórnia em 2001, Irlanda em 2003, Costa Rica 2005 e em Bakio 2007.

The last Team we're going to meet is the Basque Country. They are the current Team World Champions - title they won in the last Worlds in Mundaka/Bakio 2007. Edu Etxeberria is the most popular and awarded surfkayaker. Besides is important role in the Team, he won last year in France the World Cup (HP) and accumulates lots of sportive achievements worldwide. I usually say that, together with the Northern Ireland Team, the Basques have one of the best surfkayak school's in the world. Their junior and women team is powerfull and, on the "seniors", names as Txema Carreto, Oskar Martinez, Xabi Olano, Urko Otxoa and much more, will give great show in this Worlds.

We remember that the Basque Team already competed in Escocia 1997, Brasil 1999, USA California 2001, Ireland 2003, Costa Rica 2005 and Bakio/Mundaka 2007.

SELECCION VASCA KAYAKSURF
Mundial Portugal 2009- Santa Cruz



Tras seis participaciones en los últimos campeonatos del mundo la selección de Euskadi toma parte en Portugal en al disputa del mundial del 23 de julio al dos de agosto.

Escocia 1997, Brasil 1999, Estados Unidos California 2001, Irlanda 2003 y Costa Rica 2005 y Bakio 2007 fueron los países donde la selección dejó patente su alto nivel.

Tras conseguir el primer puesto en el último mundial y proclamarse campeona del mundo, la selección vasca afronta este mundial con las vistas puestas en revalidar el titulo más importante que se disputa dentro del kayak surf.

Los integrantes de la selección vasca han sido seleccionados tras la disputa de los campeonatos y la Copa de Euskadi organizados por los clubs vascos de piragüismo y la Euskadiko Kanoe Federakuntza a lo largo de éste año. La lista definitiva cuenta con trece seleccionados.

En los mundiales la competición esta dividida en individual y en equipos, junto con los seleccionados acudirán a Santa Cruz, lugar donde se celebra la competición, varios deportistas más hasta completar la veintena que conforma la expedición vasca.

Cabe destacar el nivel de nuestros deportistas, en Bakio Edu Etxeberria consiguió el subcampeonato mundial en la categoría de long boat, así como Txema Carreto en master e Ibon Agirrezabala en juniort short boat. Y durante el pasado año Edu se proclamó campeón de la final de la copa del mundo disputada en Francia.

Agradecimiento a la unión de federaciones vasca y a la federación vasca de piragüismo.

Este campeonato la selección no ha conseguido ningún patrocinador, por lo que los deportistas tienen que hacer frente más de la mitad del coste que supone participar en esta competición. .
