It was on last weekend - May 30 and 31 - in Wales. Lobster Bob Waveski Competion was a success. Nathan Eades, one of our NEWS TEAM member, was involved in the organization of the event and sent us this great full report. Further below, check the SLIDE SHOW with more photos. Congratulations for all!!

Lobster Bob Waveski Weekend / Surf Report by Nathan Eades

Well the sun was shining, and the forecast swell for the weekend came in as promised giving everybody involved plenty of waves to rip it up on their wave skis... Some travelled from as far as Croyde, Brighton and Cornwall, while local Jem Howe swanned on down from the other end of the beach on his dodgy old home made motorbike.

First heat hit the water at 9.30 am, where South African Mike Orsman impressed the judges and set the standard for heats to come with long dynamic rides, smashing the lip and performing big re-entries right across the bay. Heat two saw more phenominal riding coming through from Justin Parry also from South Africa. Not to be beaten on his home turf however, Jem Howe headed out during the second round to bust a clean aerial at the end of a long dynamic ride. These are just the highlights of Saturday, and it must be said that the standard of all competitors was extremely high and it was great to see such talent on the coast of Wales ripping it up on Waveskis.

Saturday’s event ran through three rounds with competitors gaining points for positions scored during those rounds, then those with the highest points qualified for semi finals, then a final. The idea of this format was to give each competitor as much water time as possible. To make sure competitors got to enjoy the beach and the great weather that hit the Gower on Saturday; we had a panel of Judges working hard all day!

After a long morning battling it out, the top 8 went onto the water in two semi finals to find the top 4, before sending out the finalists. Mike Orsman, Steve Chivers, Pete O’kane and Rob Barton who had all been flying all day, couldn’t seem to find the waves in the semi’s and narrowly missed the finals, leaving; Justin Parry, Jem Howe, Mark Trise, and Myself to hit the water at the end of the day for one last heat. While the conditions had dropped a little for the final, local legend Jem Howe still managed to find some good waves and fill them with dynamic manouvres to take 1st place.

There were a few wobbly legs on Saturday evening in the Kings Head pub, Llangennith where we all met for food and plenty of drinks. While some snuck away at last orders, Pete O’kane made sure he was last man standing partying on through the night.

Bleary eyed waveski riders met at 10 am Sunday morning and hit the beach once more to take part in an expression and pick up a few more prizes from Lobster Bob. It was great see so many waveski riders all out at the same time, and with plenty of sun and banter on the water, every one went off with a smile on their face.

Thanks to Lobster Bob, for getting behind the event and making it possible, as well as providing the comp with great prizes, Lobster Bob also provided competitors with event t-shirts, an event tent, lunch and cold drinks down on the beach!
