He belongs to our NEWS TEAM, is the former Masters HP World Kayaksurf Champion and, this time, he will be again in Portugal but to participate in the World Waveski Surfing Titles. Steve Farthing is a gentleman. Here is his second report of many that he will write for us ;)

Ocean Spirit on my mind

I’ve made it to Santa Cruz but not without some pain………in my hip pocket that is. Excess baggage arghhhhhhhhhhhh AUD$86 per kg, think I my have set a record here, at least they only put 2 holes in my ski this time. Anyway I’m still happy, Portugal seems to have that effect on me. Have checked out the event site, still a bit of building to do but I did see a big hole in the sand where the pool goes, remember if you win a trophy your going in there!

Its now day 2 and I ventured down to Ericeira home to Tiago Pires. Scored a few waves at Praia de Sao Lourenco, which has some protection from the north westerly that is gusting around 20kts at the moment. Found a groovy little café and had one of the best coffees I’ve ever had with a world famous Portuguese tart, yummy.

Tonight I ‘ll check out the action at down town Santa Cruz and put my thoughts together on this incredible French team.

Until tomorrow or the next day Ocean Spirit on my mind.

Ocean Spirit on My Mind

So we’ve got 78 on the list from all over the world with lots of big names turning up to the World Waveski Titles as part of the Ocean Spirit Surf Festival. I’ll be there next Tuesday putting together the odd report on what going down. If it’s anything like it was 2 years ago, it”s going to be lots of fun. Watch out if I get hold of a microphone!

Well let’s start my first report with an Aussie roundup. I’ve been hanging out down in Coffs Harbour lately, home of the defending champ and scoring a few good waves. I can tell you all that Rees is fit and surfing better than ever on some new gear from the Wavemaster factory. I just hope I’m on the other side of the draw. On the women’s side, Mel Hardy has lifted her game throwing down the odd aerial, looks and sounds like she wants this title. The rest of the crew is made up of Blair Moore current Aussie and US Open Champ, Dale Randahl east coast champ, Lance Milnes current world masters champ.

Jackie Dillion our world president and former Aussie women’s champ, Ben John craziest waveski surfer on the planet, Cisco Nascimento possibly been competing longer that anyone with a long list of victories and then there’s me, enough said there. Even though we’re a small team, we’re pretty strong and have a good chance of taking out the tag team trophy.

Alcançadas as 50 inscrições / Mundial de Waveski Santa Cruz Ocean Spirit 2011



12 países confirmados e mais de 50 inscrições. Tudo para o Mundial de Waveski que irá decorrer no Festival Santa Cruz Ocean Spirit de 8 a 14 de Agosto (Torres Vedras). World Waveski Surfing Titles 2011 / PLOUHINEC WAVESKI TEAM

Fred Jonneaux apresenta-nos o PLOUHINEC WAVESKI TEAM que estará em Portugal este ano



Fred Jonneaux, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, apresenta-nos o Team Plouhinec que virá este ano até Portugal para participar no Mundial de Waveski Ocean Spirit. Fica toda a descrição e a referência a um nome que já entrevistámos e que tivemos o prazer de conhecer em Peniche: Hugues Termeau. Um senhor. Vejam quem virá até Portugal!

You probably remember the interview we published in kayaksurf.net about Hugues Termeau, waveski instructor in Plouhinec (extreme NW of France). He’s well known in France as a passionated kayaker, and also as a great rider. He communicates his passion so well, that several young riders from his club compete now on the french waveski national circuit and often reach podiums in different categories. Now, take a look to Fred Jonneaux report, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, that presents us all the Plouhinec Team that will come till Portugal this year ;)

PLOUHINEC WAVESKI TEAM COMING TO OCEAN SPIRIT

Plouhinec is a very good place for surf in France. In August 2010, Fred and Mathieu Jonneaux (also from the club of Plouhinec) came to Ocean Spirit festival in Santa Cruz, to have a look at the event, preparing their coming for World waveski titles 2011.

Then, back to Plouhinec, Fred sent to kayaksurf.net an e-mail, something like : « Luis Pedro, Ocean Spirit festival is just an amazing event, and I can promise you that we are going to do our best to come with a team of young riders in 2011 ».

Right now, they are 8 riders from Plouhinec coming to run the World Waveski Titles, including 2 ladies. For all of them, it’s their first participation on the World titles. They train a lot for this event. Let me appear them :

First, the ladies :
Océane Le Gendre : 16 years old, Practise waveski since 3 years. Watertech waveski.
Emilie Jonneaux : 20 years old,. 3 years of regular practise. Watertech waveski.

The Cadets :
Nathan Le Bars : 16 years old. Practise waveski since 4 years. KS waveski.
Mickaël Belleguic : 15 years old. Practise waveski since 2 years. KS waveski.

The Juniors :
Kévin Le Bars : 19 years old. Practise waveski since 5 years. KS waveski.
Mathieu Jonneaux : 18 years old. 5 years of practise. Watertech waveski.
Benjamin Baniel : 20 years old, 6 years of practise. Kriss waveski.

The New Age :
Gaétan Brehonnet : 23 years old, 4 years of practise. KS waveski.

They all discovered waveski with Hugues Termeau, who teached them everything about local spots, waves, and pleasure of surfing. Sure it’s a great pride for Hugues to send that team on the World titles ! Some of them will be among the youngest riders of the competition. Let’s wait for the results.
