It was last March from three till April 10th that Miguel Carvalho, Pedro Castro and Bruno Melo went till Morocco. The three Watertecn Team riders made a quick surf trip till the NW of Africa and now, here is the (great) video that Miguel produced. Enjoy it!!

Durante 2011 a Watertech vai organizar algumas Surf Trips em vários locais interessantes para andar de kayaksurf & Waveski. As viagens estão abertas a todos, sejam iniciados, intermédios ou pros pois os spots que vamos visitar são adequados a todos os níveis técnicos. E além disso vamos levar 2 monitores experientes sempre disponíveis para dar umas dicas e ensinar o que for preciso.

No próximo mês de Março é tempo de visitar Marrocos, a sua cultura muito diferente da nossa e os magníficos lugares para surfar... Imssouane, Sidi Kouri, Tamri, Killer Point, Anchorpoint, Devil's Rock, Banana Beach, Km 12... Acredita que te vais divertir!!

O preço - 650€ - inclui os voos do Porto para Marraquexe e regresso, todas as deslocações em Marrocos em carrinha, as refeições, dormidas em surf houses, 2 monitores e a utilizalção de um kayak ou waveski watertech. Vai haver tempo para experimentar vários modelos e estilos de surfar :-)

During 2011 Watertech is going to organize a few Surf Trips on some different and interesting places to Surfkayak & Waveski. The Trips are opens to everybody, beginners, intermediate and experts because the places we are going to visit are perfect for all the tech levels. And besides we are going to take along 2 experienced monitors ready to give you some advices and teach whatever you need to know.

Next March it is time to visit Morocco and it's interesting culture and surf spots... Imssouane, Sidi Kouri, Tamri, Killer Point, Anchorpoint, Devil's Rock, Banana Beach, Km 12... Believe us you are going to have fun on those places!!

The price - 650€ - includes the flight from Oporto to Marrakech and return, all the travels and surf safaris in Morocco on a van, the meals, the lodging in surf houses, 2 instructors and 1 the use of our surf machines - surfkayak and waveski. Time to try different models and styles, no need to travel with the kayak or waveski :-)

REPORT DA VIAGEM por RUI CALADO e PEDRO CASTRO

Foram 7 dias a surfar por Marrocos com Bruno Melo aos comandos da inconfundível carrinha (?) onde iam 6 surfistas e todo o material. Na manhã de sábado (dia 5 de Abril), ainda nos cruzámos em Tarifa e o barco não havia meio de partir. Após a travessia, ainda houve tempo para alguma conversa sobre o percurso a percorrer. A W Team seguiu ao longo do litoral até à mítica Tan Tan Plage e nós rumámos ao interior. Foram 1200 km de costa Atlântica Marroquina à procura de boas ondas. During 7 days, the Watertech Team made great trip along the Morocco west coast. 1200 km till Tan Tan Plage always looking for the best waves. In the van, all the gear and 7 raiders. Now, all the report by Rui Calado and Pedro Castro, the W men:

"Yeap, we knew that it wasn't the best surf season in Morocco, but there is always a secret hidden spot to make it worthy. And I guess we were right :)

Our idea was to put inside our W-Van - a nice V8 Ford ambulance - some of the elements of our W-Team and spend some days surfing and trying some new surf machines and concepts. Isn't beautiful when we can mix work and fun at the same time? We went all the way to the south of Morocco, to Tan Tan plage, surfing on the way down & up, and got some nice waves and even surfed one spot for the first time (rocky rocky...). We get some new ideas for the second generation of our models Speedy, Lucifer and 666.

As you know we change of factory and we have new moulds and interiors, so we are still making them better and more practical. And we had time to try a new surkayak, a new waveski, make a video and have loads of fun... Soon we will reveal all this nice surprises :)

Ah pois é... já sabíamos que esta não era a melhor época de ondas em Marrocos. Mas há sempre um spot secreto e bem escondido que faz valer a pena a viagem. E não é que tínhamos razão? :)

O nosso objectivo foi meter dentro da W-Van - uma potente Ford V8 americana ex-ambulância - alguns dos elementos do W-Team e passar alguns dias a surfar e experimentar algumas máquinas e ideias novas.

Não é bom quando se consegue misturar curtição com trabalho? Fomos até ao sul de Marrocos, a Tan Tan plage, surfando no caminho para baixo & para cima. Até estreámos um spot onde nunca ninguém tinha metido uma prancha, kayak ou o que fosse. E não era para admirar com tanto calhau...

Da viagem ficaram novas ideias para a segunda geração dos modelos Speedy, Lucifer e 666. Como sabes mudámos recentemente de fabricante e mudámos de moldes e de interiores. estamos a fazer as coisas ainda melhores, mais práticas e bonitas... E ainda tivemos tempo para experimentar um novo modelo de kayak, de waveski, fazer um vídeo e passar um bom bocado...

Brevemente vamos revelar todas estas surpresas :)

Rui Calado, Pedro Castro e restante W-Team partem HOJE, sexta feira, para Marrocos numa incursão em terras (e águas) norte africanas. Na bagagem, para além de surfkayaks bem conhecidos como o Lúcifer, o Speedy, o 666 ou os W-Waveskis, vão também algumas novidades que irão ser testadas pelo Team. Aguardam-se fotos e, a julgar pelo entusiasmo dos homens da W, as novidades não ficarão por aqui! Certo é que o W-Team estará em peso na Session deste ano - como habitualmente - para nos desvendar tudo.

Marc Woolward
O novo elemento da nossa NEWS TEAM

Descobrimos Marc Woolward devido às grandes fotos de Caroline Janganant, sua mulher. De facto, para além de ser um talentoso kayaksurfista, Marc tem a sorte de ter casado com uma grande fotógrafa. Este inglês de 39 anos só descobriu o kayaksurf em 2004 devido a uma visita casual à fábrica da Mega. A partir daí, Marc – que já pagaiava kayaks de mar – rendeu-se ao kayaksurf.

Surfa habitualmente por Cornwall com Sam Davenport - vencedor da Taça do Mundo 2008 - e Jack Barker (ambos da selecção inglesa de kayaksurf). Não gosta particularmente de competir mas, mesmo assim, sacou um 5º lugar em HP no ano passado na maior prova do mundo do kayaksurf: Santa Cruz Kayaksurf Festival, Califórnia. Adora viajar de kayak na bagagem e gostou bastante da Taça do Mundo do ano passado em França. Começou pelo bodyboard, passou para os kayaks e agora quer experimentar o kneeboard. Já surfou pelos EUA, Marrocos, Irlanda do Norte, País Basco, Portugal, França (…) e adora as ondas da Califórnia, Mundaka e Marrocos. E quanto a uma nova visita ao nosso país? É já este ano!

Meet Marc Woolward, our newest member of the "News Team". He sent us several photos from Santa Cruz, Hawaii and Morocco. Let's see the first package from Morocco (surf trip, January 2009).

Age: 39
Occupation: I make Computers do cool things
Address: I live in Brighton on the Southcoast of England, where I coach surf kayaking at Martlet Kayak Club. The waves are inconsistent, weak, and small here but you can still find some super fun, fast waves if you are at the right place at the right time (a Brighton secret) and there is a growing crew of keen surf kayakers down here. I travel to Bude in Cornwall (the new home of Mega kayaks) for most of my surfing, and have been regularly surfing with Sam Davenport and Jack Barker from the England team this winter.



Paddling since: I first sat in a kayak in 2001, at the grand old age of 31. I was a keen bodyboarder and kayaking was a way to be in the ocean when there were no waves. I was older then than most of the guys I surf with now, guess I was a late developer.

Kayaksurf since: I played in the sea since 2001, but I suppose I started surf kayaking from 2004 following my first visit to the Mega factory. I was really, really bad for a couple of years after that.



Best results in the competition scene: For me, competition is only a very small part of the sport - I don't particularly enjoy the (self imposed) pressure or rarely surf to my potential. I only started to compete at the suggestion of Buck Johnson to surf Steamer Lane without the usual hassles (at SCSKF). I was therefore really stoked to place 5th in the HP Open Division at 2008 SCSKF. The waves were big, heavy, and challenging and the standard of competition really high so I was really proud to do so well. The sport of Surf kayaking is about travel, discovery, meeting new friends and being in the ocean although I'll always try to be at the Santa Cruz festival which is a great celebration of our sport. I also love the idea of the Worldcup (I placed 7th in the British qualifying heat in 2008) if we can continue to take it to the best spots on the planet.

Other sports: When its flat, I get my adrenaline fix from Mountain Biking, a nice downhill section releases those same endorphins! To improve my surfing, I'm learning yoga with Caroline although years of lifting weights hasn't improved my flexibility! I still run whitewater on occasion although I prefer to kayak my previous favorite bodyboarding waves now, and I'm also inspired by Buck to try kneeboarding soon.



Countries where you have been kayaksurfing: Travelling to new places is an essential part of the sport for me. I have been lucky enough to spend a lot of time surfing in Northern California which is an awesome place to learn the sport from some of the best in the world. I have also kayak surfed several times in Morocco, France (Ille d'Olleron for the Worldcup), Basque Country (Bakio and Mundaka), Ireland, Jersey, and had a great adventure in Baja in 2007 with Buck and Mark Pastick. I have board surfed in Portugal and the Caribbean, and would love to return with a kayak. My favorite waves would include Indicator Point at Santa Cruz, Moss Landing on Monterey Bay, Kilcummin and Easky in Ireland, Mundaka, and the reefs between Anka Point and Killers in Morocco.

And about the Worlds in Portugal... do you come till here? I do plan to take a trip out to Portugal very soon, although whether I can make it to the Worlds is still a question. 2009 will be a year of many changes for me and time will tell if I can make a trip in the middle of Summer.
