Dessie McGlinchey, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, sent us the suggestion. Elaine Alexander or Shooter as everyone knows her, is well on her way around Ireland on a solo trip around the island. According to Dessie - "Shooter has paddled at 3 worlds for us Ireland, Costa Rica and Basque Country. When she gets her journey completed she will be the first woman from NI to do the trip". Of course she will made it!!! All the best from Portugal and, on the end of the adventure, we want sone photos ;) Good luck Elaine!

A nova aventura de Nuno Pereira, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net




Nuno Pereira pertence à nossa NEWS TEAM e, para além do kayaksurf, é um afincado praticante nos kayaks de mar. Foi ele que, juntamente com Rui Calado, fez a travessia da nossa costa em kayak de mar (Julho de 2010). Foram 900 km em autonomia com muitas peripécias pelo meio. Agora, o projecto é ainda mais desafiante... volta à Península Ibérica com início previsto para 12 de Maio de 2012 e calculada com uma duração de 107 dias (3459 km divididos em 87 etapas).

Em baixo, mas algumas informações sobre o projecto e o link para o blog da expedição. O projecto está em fase de angariação de fundos, apoios, patrocínios... tudo! Boa sorte Nuno!!

Nuno Pereira belongs to our NEWS TEAM and, after making the sea crossing around Portugal with Rui Calado last year (900 km in one month), he is now involved in a new project. Sea kayaking again but, this time, around Iberian Peninsula. The project will start (probably) in 12th May 2012. Will be 3459 km divided in 87 steps. Kayaksurf UK / Surfing Skills for sea kayakers by Steve Bowens

Steve Bowens, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, organizou uma formação para quatro canoístas habituados aos kayaks de mar. A iniciativa contou com o patrocínio da Falmouth Marine School e pretendeu desenvolver técnicas básicas de surf. Fica o report de Steve ;)

Vallie, Aine, Glenn, Beth and Alan (4 sea kayakers from the West of Ireland) undertook a surfing course this weekend with lecturer and Coach from Falmouth Marine School; Steve Bowens. The group are all sea kayakers but wanted to learn some basic surf skills so as they have the confidence and knowledge to be able to handle themselves in the surf environment when sea kayaking.

The course consisted of two half day sessions. On the Saturday the group met at Streedagh beach near Sligo to set their goals for the weekend and discuss exactly what they wanted to get from the coaching.

Following this brief meeting (over a strong coffee) it was decided that we would spend the first afternoon in GP kayaks to develop awareness of the surf and how it affects us, develop strategies for getting out through the surf and to catch and ride waves. We drove to Mullaghmore which had a perfect small gentle wave for practicing angles and timings for paddling out and also catching the first tentative waves back to the beach. By the end of the day the group were boofing over waves, punching through them and even ducking under them, before turning and effortless catching and riding them back to the beach.

We had the debrief outside the local pub in the evening sunshine with a Guinness overlooking the bay and everyone shining from all the sun and excitement.



Sunday morning arrived and we all met again at Streedagh beach armed with our sea kayaks. Today was based on applying the skills we learnt in the gp kayaks to the much longer and less manoeuvrable sea kayaks. The surf was bigger and dumpier so those paddling out strategies were essential to avoid any misshapes.

We developed techniques to bring the larger boats back in through the surf under control and again by the end of the day everyone was looking very confident and controlled as they continually paddled out and caught waves back into the beach surfing there sea kayaks with style and grace. (ed. I ended up nearly having to drag Vallie off the water at the end of the day as she just would not stop surfing!)

That evening a few of us decided to finish off with a gentle paddle out of Rosses point in the glass clam water to watch the sunset over the horizon before returning to “Harrys” for a well deserved pint or two.

Kayaksurf or... Seakayaking?

E que tal um passeio pela Ria de Aveiro?



João Paulo Simões, NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net, promove a primeira travessia de 2011 em kayak de mar e convida-nos a um passeio pelo sector norte da Ria de Aveiro. De acordo com o JP, a intenção é "... explorar alguns canais e descobrir pequenos cais e ancoradouros que servem a pesca artesanal e a agricultura da ria. Como Zona de Protecção Especial, a ria de Aveiro alberga em pleno Inverno milhares de aves aquáticas, factor de interesse acrescido para navegar nestes habitats ricos em biodiversidade".

Acrescente-se ainda que este ano, esta travessia terá um cunho puramente solidário. Esta faceta, irá estender-se a outros passeios e encontros informais organizados pelo João Paulo com o objectivo de contribuir para um projecto de desenvolvimento que será oportunamente divulgado. Segue o programa e o convite!

09:00 – Concentração: Marina do Carregal, Ovar. (coord. 40°51'38.74"N, 8°39'22.49"O), e organização da logística.
10:00 – Início do percurso 1: Marina do Carregal - Ribeira (20 km)
è O percurso ruma a Sul, até à ponte da Varela, seguindo depois para Nordeste, percorrendo alguns canais até chegar ao cais da Ribeira.
17:00 – Final do percurso, resgate das viaturas.
20:00 – Jantar (local a designar na Torreira)

DIA 6, Domingo
09:00 – Concentração: Quinta do Norte, Torreira (coord. 40°47'52.75"N, 8°40'25.93"O).
09:30 – Início do percurso 2: Quinta do Norte – Torreira – Quinta do Norte (20 km)
è Navegação para Sudeste, entrando nos canais da ria até ao porto do Bunheiro. Regresso ao canal principal, rumando depois a Sul,
passando pelo porto da Bestida. Travessia para a Torreira e regresso à Quinta do Norte.
16:00 – Chegada e lanche-convívio

Nota: A ordem e o traçado dos dois percursos poderá sofrer alterações por motivos meteorológicos.

É mais uma incursão nas águas calmas do Tejo capitaneada por João Paulo Simões - NEWS TEAM kayaksurf.net - e colaborador habitual da Goltziana Kayaks. Desta vez, tudo decorrerá nos dias 30 e 31 deste mês em regime de semi-autonomia. Mas fiquemos com as últimas informações enviadas pelo JP. Atenção que há alterações no percurso!

TRAVESSIA DE OUTONO 2010 - Rio Tejo, 30-31 Outubro

Contrariamente ao que estava previsto, a Travessia de Outono Goltziana não se realizará no Parque Natural do Tejo Internacional. O Instituto de Conservação da Natureza e Biodiversidade, baseado no Plano de Ordenamento do Parque Natural do Tejo Internacional, cobra 150 euros para emitir um "parecer vinculativo" para autorizar um kayak a navegar, não distinguindo um kayak dum cacilheiro ou de uma traineira. Perante tal situação, foi decidido reformular o programa e mudar o percurso para um sector do rio Tejo a jusante do Parque Natural, apresentando-se, de seguida, o programa definitivo.

Sábado, 30
09:00 – Concentração em Vila Velha de Ródão (cais fluvial) - 39°39'0.53"N 7°40'20.51"O
10:00 – Início do percurso: V. V. Ródão – Barragem do Fratel (20km)
16:00 – Final do percurso, resgate das viaturas e deslocação para Ortigal (Parque Mun. Campismo)
20:00 – Jantar em Ortiga (restaurante a definir)

Domingo. 31
09:00 – Concentração em Ortiga, organização do transporte e deslocação para Amieira
10:00 – Início do percurso: Amieira – Ortiga (18km)
15:00 – Final do percurso e resgate das viaturas
16:30 – Lanche-Convívio

Tratando-se de percursos lineares, haverá necessidade de resgatar as viaturas. Os resgates serão organizados de modo a minimizar os meios envolvidos e o tempo despendido. Sugere-se a consulta do site da CM de Mação para alojamento alternativo ao campismo.

Iniciação ao kayaksurf na Costa Este dos EUA por Savannah Canoe Kayaks



Foi mais uma iniciativa do Nigel e Kristin Law, da Savannha Canoe Kayaks (SCK). O evento contou com o apoio do kayaksurf.net e o vídeo mostra-nos como tudo se passou. A marca SCK já nos habituou a vídeos muito originais... reparem na banda sonora deste ;)
